Letter to the Editor:
I can’t help but laugh at the “No King” protests. Presidents serve only two terms — that’s the law. But members of Congress? Many have ruled Washington for twenty, thirty, even forty years. These are the true kings. They write the laws, control the nation’s purse, and can override a president’s veto or block nearly anything he attempts.
And if a junior member dares to cross senior congressional leadership? They’re done — campaign funding cut off, prized committee seats gone, ambitions dead. Power in Congress flows upward, not outward — certainly not toward “we the people.”
Meanwhile, Congress often exempts itself from the very rules it imposes on everyone else. Businesses face fines under OSHA; Congress merely “promises to comply.” Add lifetime pensions and gold-plated health insurance, and the hierarchy becomes clear.
So before shouting “No Kings,” ask yourself — who’s really wearing the crown in Washington?
